Eight governments tax the same parcel; the city sets only about a quarter of the bill.
Your whole tax bill
Of every property-tax dollar you pay, how much is the city?
You do not pay one property tax. You pay eight.
The city’s rate is $0.72 per $100printed p.117 / PDF p.125 of what your property is worth. That is the number people argue about at council meetings, and it is a little over a quarter of your bill.
Seven other governments tax the same property. The school district charges $1.1213 per $100printed p.117 / PDF p.125 — more than the city and the county combined. Then the county, the flood control district, the hospital district, the education district, the port, and the college. Each was created separately, and each sets its own rate.
Together they come to $2.604857 per $100FY2025 ACFR PDF p.124 / printed p.117. On the median Deer Park single-family home — $261,679†correctedderived — A1 — that is about $6,800 a yearcomputed: dp.counterfactual.median × dp.stack.rate.total ÷ 100 — and the city, the government closest to you and the one you can actually show up and speak to, controls about 28 centscomputed: dp.stack.rate.city ÷ dp.stack.rate.total of every dollar of it.
Context, not the city’s math. Everything else on this page is the City’s finances. But a Deer Park parcel is taxed by eight overlapping governments at once, totaling $2.604857 per $100FY2025 ACFR PDF p.124 / printed p.117. Here is where your property-tax dollar actually goes — the city is the smaller part of it.

Two columns, two moments. “FY2025 (ACFR)” is the rate in the City’s audited statistical section — the basis for the cent-shares. “2025 adopted” is each government’s current rate as it adopted for the 2025 tax year; together the eight total about $2.6424 per $100. Several rose in 2025, so the two differ slightly. 2025 adopted rates: dp.rate2025.* — each body’s own adopted-rate notice, source in-row
The city is about a quarter; the school district the largest single slice, analyzed separately (a future School District page will ask not just whether it is solvent but how well the young are served for what is spent). The sales-tax districts (Crime Control, Fire Control, Community Development) are a separate 2% stack, not on this property-tax bill. per-jurisdiction rates: dp.stack.rate.* (FY2025 ACFR, Direct & Overlapping tax rates); shares computed ÷ dp.stack.rate.total
A slice of that school-district money does not stay here — it leaves for the state. Because Deer Park ISD is property-rich, the state’s recapture (“Robin Hood”) system has it return part of what it collects locally to fund other districts. In the current year (SY2026) that is $4,572,286CDN 101908, sheet FY94-FY26, SY2026; re-derived 2026-08-10; cumulatively since 1994 it comes to ~$624,022,726CDN 101908 (sum FY94-FY26); deer_park_isd.md Gap 1 — roughly a third of a billion dollars raised in Deer Park and sent to the state across three decades.
